RESIDENTS WITHIN THE CANNOCK CHASE DISTRICT SET TO SAVE £1000s WITH FREE LEGAL ADVICE CLINIC
Cannock and Rugeley Law Clinic (‘CRLC’) Launch- Free Legal Advice for the Residents of the Cannock Chase District
Cannock Chase District, UK – A new legal clinic has been established in the Cannock and Rugeley area to offer free legal advice to residents. The clinic aims to provide accessible and affordable legal support to those who may not otherwise have access to it.
The clinic, which is staffed by experienced solicitors and councillors, will provide advice on a range of legal issues including criminal law, family law, and housing law. The services will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis and appointments can be made by emailing the clinics email address.
"We are delighted to launch this law clinic for the residents of the Cannock Chase District," said Cllr. Paris Theodorou, the clinic's director. "Access to justice is a right for all, regardless of their financial situation. Our aim is to make the legal system more accessible and understandable for everyone in the community."
The clinic is a part of LawWorks, a charity working in England and Wales to connect volunteer lawyers with people in need of legal advice, who are not eligible for legal aid and cannot afford to pay and with the not-for-profit organisations that support them.
Anne-Marie Dhillon from LawWorks said: “LawWorks is delighted to welcome Cannock & Rugeley Law Clinic to join ‘LawWorks Clinics Network’. It has been an immense pleasure and privilege working with Paris over the past months, supporting him to develop a free legal advice clinic for the community he serves as a local councillor. Where legal aid is no longer available and the cost of legal advice is prohibitively expensive, giving the vulnerable in society access to justice has never been more important. This service will be a lifeline to many.”
CRLC was inspired the Advice Clinic currently run by Cllr Adrienne Fitzgerald and Cllr Philippa Haden in Hawks Green. Cllr Fitzgerald explained:
“Paris, Philippa and I have been holding Councillor surgeries at the Hayes Green Community Centre for our residents for several years, offering support and guidance on a wide range of issues that arise in our daily lives, such a housing, traffic and environmental concerns to name a few. From the time that Paris joined us he has spoken about wanting to extend the level of support we could offer to residents, not only here in Hawks Green, but across Cannock, Hednesford and Rugeley”.
The clinic will be open on the last Friday of every month, and it will be based at the Cannock Library, and Rugeley Library. All advice and support provided by the clinic will be confidential and free of charge. Local law firms including Burrell Jenkins will be providing Solicitors to offer free 30-minute legal consultations.
